The 4th Annual Gala “Still I Rise” was held on Friday, February 19, 6 – 9 p.m. in Founders Hall on the main campus. The gala honored the history and heritage of African Americans through song, music, poetry and dance. James J. Hughes, Ph.D is a bioethicist and sociologist at Trinity College in Hartford where he teaches health policy and serves as associate director of Institutional Research and Planning. He also serves as executive director of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies, a technoprogressive think tank he founded in 2005. Hughes is author of the book “Citizen Cyborg: Why Democratic Societies Must Respond to the Redesigned Human of the Future” and is working on a second book tentatively titled “Cyborg Buddha.” Since 1999, he has produced a syndicated weekly radio program, “Changesurfer Radio,” on the air Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. on WHUS Storrs 91.7 FM.
